Thailand - Sirinya Natural
Thailand - Sirinya Natural
Sirinya Coffee is a family-run specialty coffee farm, roastery, and coffee shop based in the mountains of Chiang Rai province, led by Oil and Goh Chaosuwanwilai. Sirinya is born out of a commitment to the communities of Doi Chang, stewardship of the land and the pursuit of excellence in all aspects of coffee. Opium was grown in the region for over 100 years, before government / NGO initiatives encouraged them to grow coffee instead. Poppy cultivation here dropped so significantly from the mid 1980s to the extent that Thailand is seen as a successful model for alternative development.
Whilst these farmers have been successfully growing coffee for over 40 years, Goh and Oil share their knowledge and expertise in all aspects of specialty coffee production, starting right from the beginning with the quality of the soil and organic farming methods through to the final
processing. For the coffee farmers they work with, introducing these additional steps can elevate their very good coffee to specialty grade, and with it, commanding much higher prices and access to new markets.

More Information On This Coffee
Interestingly enough, the history of coffee in Thailand traces back to the late 19th century when King Rama V initiated the cultivation of coffee as an alternative crop to alleviate the country’s economic dependence on rice. Coffee plants were introduced to the northern regions of Thailand, particularly in Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai provinces, where the climate and altitude proved favorable for coffee cultivation. Robusta was predominantly grown in the southern regions of Thailand. Initially, coffee was cultivated primarily for domestic consumption, with the majority being Robusta coffee beans.
In recent years, the Thai coffee industry has experienced significant growth, driven by advancements in farming techniques, increased investment in infrastructure, and a growing demand for specialty coffee both domestically and internationally. Today, Thailand is known for producing high-quality Arabica coffee beans, with renowned coffee-growing regions such as Doi Chang, Doi Tung, and Khun Chang Khian gaining recognition for their exceptional beans.
