Nicaragua - Marilec WASHED
Nicaragua - Marilec WASHED
Marilec grew up surrounded by coffee. At eight years old she was already exploring the mills with her mother; by high school, she was sorting coffee part-time to cover her studies. In 2000, PRODECOOP arrived in Palacaguina and both she and her father joined — she as a sorter, he as a security guard. It was there she met Eduardo Videa, her first mentor and coffee taster, who sparked her passion for coffee.
Today, Marilec and her husband Alex — also a coffee taster — own two farms in Los Planes, Dipilto, run a cupping lab, and work directly connecting clients and producers across Nicaragua. Her family's beans come from La Calera, in the municipality of Palacaguina, department of Madriz.
This washed Nicaraguan is sweet and full-bodied, with a silky mouthfeel and medium acidity. Chocolate at the base, with notes of orange and florals, with a nutty and spiced finish.
Selecionaste 1 kg de café moído.
O café moído perde aroma em poucos dias. Recomendamos grão inteiro — mós à medida que precisas e o café dura muito mais.

More Information On This Coffee
Coffee cultivation in Nicaragua began around 1850, driven by German immigrants who took advantage of the fertile volcanic lands and high-altitude climate in Matagalpa and Jinotega. It quickly became one of the main export products, sustaining the local economy.
After consolidating itself as an economic pillar in the 19th century, production faced political instability and natural disasters, recovering from the 1990s onwards. Nicaragua is currently the 12th largest producer in the world, with the sector dominated by small farmers (15 hectares or less).

Overall rating: 4.7 / 5 from 3 reviews.
I enjoyed it as an espresso, but I think that a little less acidity would work better for this profile.
