Ethiopia - Aricha
Ethiopia - Aricha
The coffee comes from the Yirgacheffee Aricha region and has 200 beds, and has been in operation for three years. This is the second year of its collaboration with Ephtah. During the year, it has 6 permanent workers and at harvest time it increases to 100 people. Harvesting takes place from November to January.
The coffee is grown by small farmers using shade-grown banana trees. It is organic, but no certification is available due to the high cost of verification.
In addition, due to the unusually high levels of variation, difficulties have been experienced in drying the coffee. This is a natural coffee that is fermented in plastic barrels for 9 days and dried for 13 to 18 days. It is then stored in the local warehouse and transported to Addis Ababa when ready.
The purchase of these berries was financed by Ephtah due to liquidity problems in that region. EPHTAH donated the nets. This is where our Ama Commitment program is focused. Our craft center and nursery is located in the town of Idido.

More Information On This Coffee
Ethiopia is referred as the birthplace of coffee since Coffea arabica’s origin goes back to Ethiopia’s Southwestern Highlands and contiguous region of South Sudan.
The flavours of Ethiopian coffees are notably diverse – from citrusy and floral to candied fruits and ripe tropical fruits.
The washed coffees tend to be elegant, complex and delicious. The ones with a natural process can be wildly fruity.
